Background- Perch Rock Lighthouse at mouth of River Mersey

A portrait of William dated about 1855, according to a friend of mine who knows about Victorian hair styles. Maybe to mark his 50th birthday. Certainly he wasn't poor!
I know again very little about William directly, but am gradually gaining information from the 1837-1847 ledger. For instance, he exchanged/bartered work for: Beer, silver spoons, Hats(2) for £1/0/0. Of course, he also took cash or sometimes even promissory notes and bills.
In the early stages he was solely operating as a bricklaying contractor, but it didn't take long for this to change to being a general contractor.
